When fashionable 17-year-old Sevana Selwyn travels from her Toronto boarding school to spend the summer in the Canadian wilderness, she sees it as an interruption on her way to pursue her art career on the plains of Alberta. But despite an antagonistic brother who resents sharing his cabin with her, and a primitive, isolated lifestyle she is unprepared for, she finds herself profoundly affected by the beauty of that wild river valley and the friendship of a rugged shepherd, who is facing conflicts of his own. Sevana wants to hold onto the new dreams she finds in the mountains, but the reality of winter on the flatlands, and the flamboyant artist who is determined to win her heart, threaten to steal those dreams away. Besides, what good are dreams that can't come true? Through loss, hope, and self-discovery, Sevana learns the true answer to the destiny she is seeking in this lyrical, coming-of-age novel.

Stony River Ciarra Montanna 9781468197112 Books Reviews
I read very few novels, but this one was a true delight and well worth my time. The author's descriptions of the main character's surroundings and her personal struggles and victories were expressed so well that I could relate and feel like I was "there" in the story. This is an especially enjoyable read for anyone who loves the mountains and understands the attachment that can form by being a part of that kind of landscape.
I could not put my kindle down. The story was well written and kept your interest all the way to the very end. I would highly recommend it!
The author reveals her deep love of and delight in the beauty of her beloved mountains, as well as her understanding of human nature and emotions. Well-written and compelling to read. I read it all on my computer screen for lack of a , and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The person who received the book has read it several times.
Have ordered another copy for a person who head about
the story and wanted their own copy.
I quite liked the writing of this book and the romance the heroine had with the mountain. I was less impressed with the romance of the main characters with each other. While I accept they had a connection, I never got the feeling there was anything beyond a good friendship between them. The ONLY physical interaction between the heroine and anyone was with a potential rapist and then again with "the wrong man" which added to that feeling. The main character is 17 throughout the majority of the book and her love interests are in their late twenties which I found uncomfortable. There is also a ridiculous amount of drunk/impaired driving which is done and/or accepted by all of the characters without consequence, which really bothered me quite a bit and was never addressed by the author. Lastly, the main character and one of her love interests are painters. It is pointed out that one of them, her teacher, is a purist only using oil paints which means the class would have been taught using oil techniques. The author repeatedly wrote about the pieces being completed, framed, and sold within hours. Too bad oil paints take a month and beyond to dry! I understand the author had a ridiculous amount of research to do for this book, but for a subject to come up multiple times and for the descriptions to be unrealistic is frustrating. Overall, I liked this book quite a lot and really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to both Christian and non-Christians alike (the vast majority of the religious writing is not eye-rollingly preachy)but I think it could have been better.
Stony River skillfully portrays young Sevana Selwyn in her search for the fruition of her dreams as an aspiring artist. Transplanted from the eastern part of the country, she eventually finds meaning for her life through the inspiration of the majestic Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, with the help of a certain shepherd. I particularly loved the way the very intriguing story combined unusually beautiful, intricate descriptions of mountain landscapes with clever, vivid and often amusing characterizations of the people involved in the plot. This book is good reading to its satisfying final page. It is like a breath of fresh air!
This is a fantastic story. It feels close to home since it is set in British Columbia, Canada. I'm from Manitoba.
I couldn't stop reading this book. The story line just kept me engrossed night after night when I read my .
I became a character in it or an angel over Savanah's shoulder telling her what to do next. I'm so glad she chose
the life style she finally did and went back home to live in her love and heart.
